Full Description

It is fitting that Jesus’ last instruction to His little band of disciples prior to His ascension is relevant to 21st Century disciples:  they were to create a movement.rnrnThe church was never intended to be a group who sat in a building once a week, speaking of the need to minister, and waiting for people to come in. The intention was that the church would be an influence in their community. Just as the early Christians were movers, our own church is to be a Movement.rnrnIn doing mission, we are to follow Jesus’ method. Christ “mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’”1 ADRA, Health, Education, and Media Ministries all provide support and resources to enable your church to be a Centre of Influence.rnrnHowever, Jesus didn’t meet only the people’s physical needs. He showed them His Father. He said, Go and sin no more. He forgave.rnrnBy God’s grace and with the collaboration of each Mission and Conference we also endeavor to accomplish the final step of sharing the everlasting gospel: bidding people to follow Christ and to prepare for eternity.rnrnThe South Pacific Division has a four-point strategy that the NZPUC emulates as follows:rnrnPreparernrnIn evangelism, preparation of the soil involves creating friendships. This involves simple activities such as socializing and enjoying meals together with non-Adventists, visiting those who are sick or in prison, and praying for people going through difficult circumstances. Community service, feeding and clothing the poor and public health programs are also great ways to prepare hearts for the gospel message.rnrnSowrnrnAs people’s hearts are opened to us through friendship, prayer and community service, opportunities will arise to sow seeds of faith. Sharing what God has done in your life, explaining God’s love and plan of salvation and reading the Bible together are simple ways to introduce Jesus. As a church, visitors’ day, small groups, Sabbath School, or Pathfinders provide further opportunities to sow seeds of faith.rnrnCultivaternrnWhen a person responds positively to the gospel message, it is vital to cultivate both the relational and spiritual aspects of their lives. Spend time together socially, eat, pray, serve together. Go through a series of Bible studies, teach them how to read the Bible and pray for themselves. Introduce and help them develop friendships with mature Christians in the church.rnrnHarvestrnrnHarvest involves the conversion and inclusion of individuals into the body of Christ, which is the church.  It is important to use different evangelistic methods that are culturally sensitive, intergenerational, relevant and lead people to make the decision to follow Jesus and to join His Church.rnrnGod has done everything necessary for the salvation of men and women. The price has been paid. The Holy Spirit is working on their hearts. The missing ingredient is a Spirit-filled man or woman through whom God might speak.rnrnChrist, through the Church, is the Hope of the world.rnrn Ministry of Healing, page 143rn
