If every Adventist within the NZPUC knocked on around 200 doors we could take the gospel into every home within this Union. Now that may not sound like too many doors, but try it and see how you go. Firstly, will anyone be home? Secondly, how many people would see us as an annoyance rather than seeing us as someone having something which they perceive to want or need? Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the church owned a gospel focused brand which was more of a conversation starter than a conversation stopper?rnrnThe Lord in His grace and wisdom has gifted us the opportunity to take His message literally into every home within our region. Not just as a once only event, but 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One of the beauties of media is that as the Holy Spirit works on the hearts and minds of people the God-centred answers to their challenges in life are right at their fingertips, in privacy and with no pressure. As a result, the breadth and beauty of the Adventist message goes beyond existing Adventist relationship networks to enter the unentered and unenterable, basically as a disciple in the pool of undisciples.rnrnSo, what is the purpose of media in the context of the Seventh-day Adventist church? Media has one primary role, to be embraced by pastors and their members to help grow local churches. Hope Channel is not an entity within itself, it is not a ministry. Our vision is for Hope Channel (and other media such as French Polynesia’s LVDL) to be an extension of the local church, connecting the church to the community and the community to the church. As we move forward you will notice an emphasis on enhancing the image and awareness of local churches through telling stories of Seventh-day Adventists as they participate in helping their community in the context of being a centre of influence.rnrnIn places like New Zealand where we have around twenty people from the community viewing Hope Channel to every one Adventist member we have an opportunity to grow the church exponentially. But it will take each of us across the Union to work together within the framework of an integrated and consistent strategy, reducing fragmentation and duplication of effort. This strategy goes beyond the taking of the gospel into every home, beyond gaining contacts, beyond connecting viewers to the Hope Bible school, to include ‘closing the loop’ by connecting viewers with local Adventist people and churches within communities.rnrn
